Meet the Board
Kevin Lombardi, President
Kevin Lombardi is a Director with the Government Healthcare Solutions practice within Navigant Healthcare. He is healthcare and government sector business development executive with more than 20 years of experience in sales, strategy and healthcare financing.
Mr. Lombardi serves as member of the Board of Trustees for the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society. He is a national fundraiser, spokesperson, and advocate. He is responsible for developing a model for a national Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) outreach program – this assists individuals gain their federal entitlement. He has developed a national corporate sponsorship model operating in 10 states, 137 stores which contributes a percentage of profit in annual giving.
Jim Derick, Director
Jim Derick spent 28 years as a commercial insurance broker before being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. In 2008 Jim was forced to leave his career due to worsening symptoms.
Since then, Jim has been an active volunteer at the New England Chapter of the National MS Society serving as a support group leader, fundraising and assisting with government advocacy.
Jim is also a member of the Board of Incorporators of the SAFE Coalition of Franklin, a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island and an active member of the Mount Saint Charles School committee.
Deborah A. Cannata, Director
Deb is a health care professional with a BS in Health Care Management who has worked in the industry for 30+ years, currently managing daily operations for the Heart and Vascular Centers at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She also sits as the Administrative Lead for a collaborative initiative with the Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare addressing Care Redesign in cardiovascular medicine.
Deb became involved with the MS Society eight years ago as part of the Lombardi Party Challenge Walk Team. She had no direct affiliation with multiple sclerosis, but has since come to be part of a community of people who all share a similar goal of striving to help those afflicted with MS now.
Patricia Thorpe, Director
Patricia is the Vice President of Marketing for North Middlesex Savings Bank and is responsible for community relations as well as marketing, training and advertising functions.
Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1994, Patricia became involved with local multiple sclerosis organizations. Over the past ten years, she has successfully raised over $500,000 for the Greater New England Chapter of the National MS Society. She currently sits on the Board of Trustees for that organization. Patricia brings professional experience to the Board of MSCF, as well as personal experience as someone living with a chronic, incurable and debilitating disease.
Michael Bates, Director
Michael Bates is an entrepreneur and has ownership and interest in four companies/organizations across the United States. His passion is simple: “If you are able, you are responsible.” He believes that if you are able to help or make a difference in a person’s life you are responsible to do so. Michael currently resides in Salem, NH with his wife Christine (who was diagnosed with MS in 2009), his two boys, Christopher and Kaleb, and his daughter Mia.
Nick D’Alleva, Treasurer and Director
Nick D’Alleva is a small business owner of three Edible Arrangements franchises on the North Shore of Boston. His interests are sports and spending time with his family, wife Emma, son Nico and daughter Daniela. He lives in Peabody, MA.
John O’Neill, Clerk and Director
John serves as Director and Counsel at Affiliated Managers Group, Inc. (AMG). John is responsible for assisting AMG’s Affiliates with a variety of legal and compliance matters, and has extensive investment management regulatory compliance experience. John became involved in the fight again multiple sclerosis as a participant in the Challenge Walk on behalf of the National MS Society in 2011. John lives with his wife in Lexington, MA.
